Color Wheel
Use the color wheel color and convert between RGB (red, green, blue) or HSB (hue, saturation and brightness) colour models.

You can click and drag your mouse pointer on the color wheel itself, type in RGB or HSB values, or use the hue, saturation and brightness sliders on the right.

When selecting colors in the color wheel you are adjusting the hue and saturation. When adjusting the hue slider (the left most slider) notice how the color wheel's selected color dot moves around the color wheel in a circle. When adjusting the saturation slider (the middle slider) notice how the color wheel's selected color dot moves in or out from the center of the wheel. When adjusting the brightness slider (the right most slider) notice how the brightness changes and note that the color wheel's selected color dot does not move.

To compare colours, select a colour from the top and drag it onto the top swatch on the left. Only the top color swatch along the left side of the color wheel tool area works. You can drag a color between it and the top horizontal color bar.

The hex and decimal versions of the RGB value is very useful for picking colours for use in HTML pages, and the HSB values are also often useful. When typing in a numeric value press the enter (or return) key to complete your entry and see the entered color. For hex numbers You don't need to type the # symbol as it will automatically be added. With text entry you can enter any color while the color wheel and sliders may skip some colors.

This kind of color wheel was inspired by NeXT Computer's OpenStep Operating System Color Wheel and is one of the best ways to choose colors. The OpenStep color wheel was likely inspired by the color wheels that artists use to select colors. NeXT's OpenStep has merged with Apple's Mac OS9 and evolved into MacOSX. Enjoy the use of this color wheel.
